Behind you the door slams shut. locked. before your eyes a staircase descends into a dimly lit corridor. at the very end a door looks to stand ajar. a flickering light beckons. the air is stale. cautiously you make your way down, moving towards the light at the end of the passage way. from the room behind the massive steel, sounds erupt. dazzling volumes push drones and screeching noises, sometimes with jarring screams, through the walls. In the room hospital like drapes hang from hooks. tables are filled with ominous looking instruments. an unsuspected gust of wind pushes the door closed. the single light bulb flickers and strains to remain on. and then all is pitch black and all of a sudden. as your eyes try to adjust to the instant darkness, your ear drums are pummelled with scraping noise sounds, like a machine coming to life in close proximity...
The seventh edition of noise central festival follows hot on the heels of two recent festivals: the first being one smashing long day, afternoon, evening and night at the summer darkness festival; the second, and most recent, in 013 venue, tilburg, featuring: esa, detritus, fractional and tapage. Back at its home base in utrecht, noise central festival raises the bar and pushes the boundaries with one of the most demanding, trying and testing line-ups ever.
Co-produced by amsterdam's al-noisia (known from the destruction alpha & beta nights in occii) and the SJU venue, halcyon presents: noise central festival VII, featuring: harsh noise, experimental industrial, dark ambient and above all: the finest in power electronics. Prepare yourself for an afternoon and night of noise, sure to resonate in your ears, mind, soul and body for quite some time. Follow the corridor towards the flickering light and you're in for a true and powerful noise surprise!
NCF VII featuring live:
IRM [swe]
This headlining threesome deals in some of the most harsh power electronics and industrial sounds known. Desolation now: in subtle droning frenzy and smothering beauty in gritty vocals, oppressive soundscape-cascades and obstinate obsession. Bleaker than your very worst of nightmarish dreams. Cathartic sonic revelations of the most desirable sort. You know you want to escape; you know you don't and can't; so is the beauty of violence, the violence of beauty: so is IRM. Cold and lonely, irreligious and dark droning. IRM masters the sonic equivalent of bacon's infamous paintings; scenes of a crucifixion and way beyond. A bleeding wound oozing and pulsating, flowering like you might never have thought to hear.
It's with great pride noise central festival can announce this Swedish power electronics and industrial three-piece master act, with releases out on cold meat industry, segerhuva and annihilvs (helmed by navicon torture technologies man leech) during its tenth year anniversary, as the headliner of the seventh edition. For noise central festival IRM will bring a set based on the upcoming album Order 4 for the first time outside of Sweden!

Wertham [ita]
Formed in 1995, Wertham has been playing with stereotypes and (mis)conceptions on themes such as: sex, race, class et cetera. Immersed in a massive and calculated sound piercing right through body and mind, Wertham's power electronic and industrial sound blasts paint human landscapes based on first hand experiences. Needless to say, these might very well not always be the brightest of experiences, nor the most merry. Basically this is the sound of a self-abusing teenage girl. The sound of hunger. Of two hugging muscle bears or an iron winged butterfly. Here: chains are hanging from the ceiling. Here you feel self induced skin rash. See: a beheaded Rastafarian. irreversible. Wertham tries and tests. All words and lyrics should be interpreted as a real life diary which paints human landscapes describing domestic violence, white trash mentality, ghetto culture and street life in general
Marco Deplano (also known from foresta di ferro) delivered the first full length as his solo project wertham with 'memories from the pigsty' (on tesco). This is a full frontal power electronics and industrial music sonic assault filled with a plethora of samples and very aggressive vocals. His personal long overdue manifesto, now live on stage at the noise central festival!
Einleitungszeit [svk]
For over 14 years this Slovak band has moved towards a pure and ultimate death-industrial sound with quite a cult reputation. Not in the least part because of the amazing and often shocking live performances. Just check out some of the examples on YouTube or their website. Intense in both sound and performance this act gives its very all and total dedication in pure industrial noise. Destruction turned into ecstasy?
Also check their CDs which are known for their special packaging using cardboard and wires, metal casings and stuff like that.
Einleitungszeit brings a totally absorbing sound; clear yet stunningly powerful to noise central festival. The embodiment of human alienation, transmitted by next-century's cyber-apostles of the death-industrial cult, for hybrids and clones of the future and as an early reminder here and now for us mere weakling human beings.
feine trinkers bei pinkels daheim [ger]
At this year's maschinenfest, j. eberhard's f.t.b.p.d. opened the sunday line-up with a set of experimental electronics and noise. Full of experimentation and improvisation, he moved along his red current of electronic and acoustic sounds and noises, distortions and delays; his ebb and flow of noise currents of found objects and of found sounds or noises. His ethos lies with tape trading, punk an DIY. His heart, so it seems, bears connection to for example: einstrzende neubauten.
His art is pure craft, by hand; by going out, looking for, finding, putting together, ripping apart, letting loose and re-assembling. Controlled anarchy? Music-concrete having one of its finest moments? Punk in the electronic-noise-industrial genre? Since 1994 releases have been far and few in between. Live shows have been aplenty. The release titles might be somewhat 'strange'. same goes for the band name or a record sleeve made out of paper soaked in urine. Nonetheless, with live skills honed in many years of touring and proudly bearing the mark of 'one of the most special maschinenfest 2009 live performances' on his sleeve, j. eberhard will delight noise central festival with an eclectic yet totally engaging live set. It's quite a mouthful, but, having witnessed this set, you'll be hard-pressed to ever again, forget the name: feine trinkers bei pinkels daheim .
TZII [bel]
Having worked with people from sun-ra arkestra, the stooges, otto von schirach and also 1997ev, flutwacht, stalker et al., tzii's motto reads: 'let's meet you behind that corner!!!'... Expect: magical frequencies for occult goats; or: deep dark ambient and drones, extreme frequency manipulation, expertly executed sub-bass rumbles and frightful atmospheres. Kling-klang sounds, clunking metal, screeching noise like finger-nails against a blackboard. Ambient undertones, industrial visions. Experimental performance. Organic and individual moving towards electronic and collective... the inner and outer world merging, yet fighting for dominance. Not overtly but only in the listener. Sounds full of air and space and nocturnal splendour collide with sounds moving in, closing in on you and transmitting: claustrophobia. indeed: you just never know what's behind the corner. Meet tzii exactly there and he'll guide you along the twists and turns of many a corner in tzii's netherworld of sonic pitch black darkness between capture and release. Between the soothing embrace in total darkness and of being let loose in freedom to roam the blackness on your very own.
odal [nld]
Born from the cassette and tape trading and label age, odal manages the tape label STRONT (shit). He's also active in the infamous Dutch extreme noise act fckn'bstards. Peter - odal - zincken has produced under numerous names and guises for many years. Think: experimental extreme noise from the most depraved of sonic states. Think: merzbow or vomir and way beyond. Think: the sonic equivalent of klysma. soul-cleansing sonic annihilation to some.
Pure sonic terror to others. Nihil is very close. Pure experimental noise improvisation may never gotten closer to its very core. Question any authority. Shit your pants or immerse yourself voluntarily. Odal might just be the most noisy of noise acts the noise central festival has ever featured. Beyond odal, there's only silence? or can sound get even more extreme? wait and see; wait and hear
In between and around the live acts DJ DistortedChaos will team up with DJ Silken Tofu from Belgium to merge this whole noise experience to one solid journey of nastiness.
